So, suspect the valve removed completely, and some sort of tube put in its place, does this device then trick ECU into thinking it's still there?.
What was cost ?

No valve stays shut /inoperative, plug disconnected at vacuum actuator so no vacuum to open it,
yes tricks ecu
£53..

''For vacuum operated EGR valve (CDI)
Kit includes:
  • 1x EGR valve emulator
  • 5x Cable Clips for installation without soldering.
  • 1x Fitting instructions
Simple installation

1. Disconnect EGR connector from the EGR valve.

2. Connect 3 wires of emulator to wiring harnes

3. Cut MAF sensor 5th wire, connect EMULATOR GREEN wire to MAF 5th pin side and YELLOW wire to ecu harnes side.

EGR valve must be checked to be in closed position to avoid intake system air leaks!!!!

Why buy from me:

1. Good price

2. High quality (Non china made. Only original electronic parts)

3. Moisture and water resistant (Compound filled. Can be mounted in engine bay)

4. Microcontroller control. (Beter algorythm for fuel economy)

5. Technical support. Most answers are sent immediately.

6. Two years of warranty.

100% tested solution, the car has no more EGR DTC, 2 year warranty

changed the inlet manifold today, biggest pain was getting egr valve bolts to line up, spare inlet manifold just wouldnt line up with egr valve pipework and support brackets, had to loosen off all egr pipework bolts and support brackets, put on egr valve then retighten all egr pipework joints and supports, doh,... car in limp mode, swirl flap motor on spare appears to be u/s, have ordered 4.7Kohm resistor to delete it near ecu, car drives good enough for me in limp mode ,so not particularly concerned about driving it till resistor arrives.

Put thw mb2 on car and cleared faults , hasnt gone into limp mode since,
Decided to fit new orange turbo air inlet seal, and change air filter box from spare as the rubber mounts where in better condition and better spec ?? Suprising as spare was 45k miles more on it. Also fitted turbo pipes/ breather pipes as i had cleaned and bagged them previously, when all refitted lot less smoke on kickdown, till oil builds up again from oil seperator pipe !! Ordering a catch can , to reduce oil through turbo !

get some right angle copper bends, they really help getting the catch can pipes going the correct direction.
Fitting behind headlight is a doddle.
It did not fix my oil problem, but halved it to one drip in about 500 miles.
and it reduced emissions at MOT, which was an unexpected bonus.

Yep will probably copy your post about it to the letter ! Awaiting arrival of catchcan.

Egr emulator arrived today, so got straight on with it, instructions were crystal clear, made it very quick and easy, only one thing to remember if you use this diagram to do your own resistor mod, the ecu diagram is reversed if looking from bumper, turn the pic upside down and you will be fine,

With the emulator you have to cut the yellow/white wire between your 2 connections as per instructions and leave all wiring to egr /vacuum actuator connected, and just block vacuum pipe to egr(I filled elbow pipe at egr with glue from my glue gun)
Drove car for test, no clouds of black smoke on kickdown no visible smoke on tickover etc, I am happy with it even if it did cost £53 !
Will be interesting to see how my mpg will be over the next week.

You won't find any appreciable difference in economy but you should notice a more responsive engine at lower revs. No waste of exhaust through the egr.
was hoping the combination of swirl flap delete/egr delete and cleaning of pipes /inlet manifold etc all combined might improve mpg
going on a 150 mile motorway run tomorrow, will do a tank to tankfull check , hoping to improve on 28mpg on last motorway run(pre improvements) !

well my planned mpg check didn't go well, was in limp mode the whole journey(only good thing was the car still drove ok at a steady 65mph and didn't really struggle even up big hills as long as I wasn't forced to slow down by congestion before I hit them)
Also windscreen washers failed ,doh.
limp mode was caused by egr vacuum pipe coming apart at join(don't know why but cable tied vacuum pipe to nearby pipe) all driving fine no clouds of smoke on kickdown,
Washer was a pain, decided to swop washer reservoir with pumps from spare as my washer tank had hole in top and looke 20 yrs older,
washers still only dribbled, after testing all pipework ,turned out long pipe from bulkhead to washer pump was blocked, swapped from spare , washers now better than ever.
when I filled my original washer tank a while ago, I filled it with -10 or so screenwash so it would defrost screen in mornings when icy, when I swopped it out I noticed the water in it had what looked like small whispy pieces of gunk floating around, so the strong screen wash may have cleaned off 17yrs of build up on the inner walls of the reservoir??)
Oil catch tank arrived so that's next job , then back to fixing spare bumper at last.
Anyone know what is the narrowest rim/ tyre(for economy) with biggest profile (for comfort) that I could fit on my ml in exchange for my 275/55/17.

Worth a look in the fuel filler cap as all the tyre sizes should be listed there. Alternatively the manual should have the details of the winter tyre sizes which will be the narrowest ones available

I share your pain with both of those faults, had same, vacuum pipe to turbo came off, boy what a load of smoke and could hardly get up a hill, washers stopped working as pipe under scuttle split, pain of a job to replace.
Tyres
I have fitted 255/60/17 to mine and its fine, i think it depends what wheel size you have, i know that some have fitted 235's on the narrower rims.
Just bought a full set of NEXENS 255/60/17, brand new, delivered for £256. They are in my greenhouse waiting for the Goodyears to wear out, done 18,000 on them so will not be that much longer.
I look forward to your next updates.

2003 ML270 sold but not forgotten. 2022 Kia EV6 RWD LR
I've run 235/65/17 for 145000km now and would never go back to normal 255's as supplied. Good ride and no tramlining. Later ML's were fitted with 235's as the default tyre from factory. I used Nexens for 72000km and Yokohams for 73000km. Currently on Kumho. Good price and not noisy like Nexens. Yoko's too exxy.

I think you would have to have the narrower wheel option to fit a 235. The wheels I have were fitted from factory with a 275,they are the wider of the wheels offered at the time. I wanted to buy narrower wheels but could not find any at the time so fitted 255.
They improved ride and steering.
I suspect the 235 would be better, but I will settle for the compremise I have now

Totally unrelated to this thread at moment ,BUT, thought I would ask here anyway,
in the distant past ,if I had a non starting/ no cranking problem, I would check the starting circuit by shorting across the starter motor terminals on starter solenoid to see if car would start and eliminate any problem after the starter,
with modern electrics and ecu's can you still do this without causing electrical/ecu problems???????

Decided to get on with catch can, was bigger than it looks so decided to temporarily secure it to lower metal battery surround, hope its not going to rattle too much where it is, we will see if my oil leak at bottom of breather pipe stops now, have the spare breather pipe off other car so can take it out easily later if i want to.

Supposed to be stainless steel and rust free, asda's own brand had no mention of s/steel and just said rust resistant, probably why they were a third of the price.

That appears same size as the one I fitted. It will go behind headlight.

Just be careful and take time to remove the trims under light, other than that it's a doddle
