Well how interesting, they wouldn't supply me as the wheels I am putting on the car are reproduction and not genuine. They wouldn't accept the liability.

OK, so...

M14 x 1.5mm, 14mm radiused seat, 17mm hex head I understand... how much should the bolt protrude from the inside face of the wheel to ensure it is secured properly into the hub? I know I could take a wheel off and measure it, but figured I'd ask here first.

i've had these type fitted on my E55 for the past year with no problems and no rust. They are zinc plated and M14x1.5mm 17mm hex'socket, radius head x 27mm long.
I understand you should be able to tighten up the bolts at least 7 full turns for safety. Perhaps someone can confirm that? I do realise the need not to foul the rear parking brake shoes.

I'm sure I read on here that there needs to be 14mm protruding from the back of the wheel to give correct depth penetration (ok, I'll do it... ooer!) into the hub.

27mm sounds about right and these were the ones I was hoping to buy... Ah well! Paypal just got refunded so back to square one. I may well give your suggestion a go!

It needs near enough 20mm with 14mm bolts.

Thank you Malcolm, I wouldn't want to put you to any trouble though! I'll whack a bolt out tonight and check the protruding shank length, if I need 20mm then it's just a case of mathedematics to work out what length is required. I'm fairly sure it's the 27mm already mentioned.

Well a brief update, I pulled a bolt out last night, checked on the new wheels and 27mm does indeed seem the length required.

Current shank = 45mm.
Shank protruding on new wheel = 33mm.

This is too long. The wheel takes up 12mm of the shank.

With a 27mm bolt that will leave me with 15mm going into the hub, from what I have read that sounds about right- basically the entire bolt diameter going into the hub.

New bolts are on order from eBay, seller is TRS UK based in Sherington, Bucks. Total cost £20.99 for bright galv finish. When they arrive I'll whack off the existing wheel, check current bolt protrusion on that and see how we get on. I may end up buying some longer bolts and cutting them down to size.

I gave up trying to keep the bolts rust-free and just put some chrome plastic caps over them (about £10 on Ebay).

The look completely convincing and will never rust. if they get damaged, well, it's only a tenner for another set..

Standard wheels just re-finished in Satin Black, black bolt covers, black weights, motorcycle valves and black centre logos

I was considering the motorcycle valves for my new ones, but the garage didn't have any available. I did manage to buy black-chromed MB logo valve caps though :)

If they are aluminum, take care that they do not corrode on.

I bought two sets. The first are brass, pretty heavy, black enamelled and very nice. Screw on with a small allen grub screw to lock them onto the valves. One is still down the verge of the M1 somewhere... and so there were 3 (it's like a song).

The second set I bought- I just reordered from Amazon, same part/ seller as before- I was a bit disappointed to find that they're injection moulded plastic, painted. Look the same but weigh about 5% of the first set.
