    Good morning everyone,

I’m sure this thread has been done to the death but I either can’t find anything or I’m searching the wrong info etc.

I have just acquired an 2006 SL350 obsidian black with the works added pan roof etc etc for weekends/summers to go alongside my 2018 GLC220 PP for everyday living.

Only covered 60k.. now the comand is original and never upgraded.. has anyone bought an after market comand with BT/Satnav/DVD etc that still works with all merc buttons?

    Thanks in advance

    Hello and welcome,

If it's only a weekender or summer fun bus why not keep it original? You probably have an aux in or iPod integration which you can link to. I installed DAB into mine and as I use the iPod I just use the RF generator to get DAB. The Satnav I find perfectly adequate even though it's years out of date.

Thank you! It was my dads car years ago and I have bought it back, not sure if it has an aux?

I do have a cigarette lighter radio transmitter that works perfectly I guess I wanted to just modernise the entertainment system?

On another note, 12v works but not if I plug an accessory in? Any ideas why? No other 12v supply for Bluetooth dongle :(

Hi. I recently gave my command system bluetooth so that I'm able to play music etc from phone. I bought a small adapter on Amazon for 10 or 20 quid and plugged it into the rear of the command(replacing the multi CD unit). I powered the thing from the underside of cigar lighter and it is all working fantastic! There is a video on YouTube showing how to remove command unit.

The aux connector is in the glove box on my 2004 R230, on the right hand side. It is a 3.5mm audio socket only, but works perfectly with an iPhone XI, you just need the lightning to 3.5mm cable from apple. I have never felt the need to update my command, it works just fine, you just have to set the iPhone to play before you set off, and problem sorted. There is a radio and a six disc CD changer too, so we are not short of options. The sound is great with the Bose speakers, so I wouldn't change a thing. I have all the blue tooth connectivity in our other car, but don't miss it in the Merc, you can always listen to the engine, and enjoy wafting around.

Fitting an aftermarket system will affect the value and originality of the car. Plus, the fitting of one will be complicated even if you don't have the Bose upgrade as all the connections for speakers and antennas are not behind the head unit!
