Hi guy,

I'm going to tackle this code myself, first point of call is replacing the oxygen sensor. I haven't looked under the car yet fully yet just had a brief glance. I'm thinking the cat is located 2/3s the way up the exhaust towards the front of the car. I'm I correct in thinking the bank 1 sensor 1 is coming out of the cat?

Thanks chaps

Hi thanks for the reply. I was always under the impression it has 4 sensors? I'm sure I can see 2 of them in the engine bay. I thought bank 1 sensor 1 was the sensor coming upstream from the cat?

V petrol engines have 4. Inline petrols have 2. Not sure on the diesels but could one of the sensors you're seeing be a DPF sensor or perhaps exhaust pressure sensor?

i'm almost positive i can see four sensors, iv been looking through the net to try and find anything, i checked on my OBD and the code seems to have gone, three consecutive days now its been code free? the car seems to be the same on fuel and doesn't sound any different.

how many O2 sensors depends on year and engine, why are you changing the O2 sensor when it says temp sensor?

Year is 59 and it's E250 or 651 engine. I spoke to my local Indy on the the phone and they said the first thing would be to check the o2 sensor bank 1.

Is that code from a star machine? Generic code readers can lead you up the wrong path! Don’t confuse temp sensor with o2 sensor.
Was it a Mercedes specialist or a general garage?

Its was a mercedes specialist near where I live. I have used them before and seemed ok. Apart from telling me my brake pipes are corroded and they weren't. Would the cat temp sensor effect the temp gauge on the dash? I have tried the reader again today and no codes showing. I'm using a of the net obd reader. Could it be possible the car just needed a good run out which I have done twice since last week? It's a week now since limp mode went off. I was only on for a few minutes in the first place.
Thanks

No. Totally unrelated.

After a set of successful starts (where full engine temperature was attained and no further recurrence) the codes will self clear.

Thanks there doesn't seem to be any issues at present. Strange how one days it's ok then not the next.

Welcome to electronics in cars.....
I'm at my wits end with this ****** car. After a week of being fine the car went into limp again today. I switched it off then on then out of limp mode. I used my OBD 2 and these codes came up P2453, P0426 and P244A. I had the DPF pressure sensor replaced 6 weeks ago could it have anything to do with this? The codes read Diesel Particulate Filter Pressure Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance, catalyst temp sensor range performance bank and DPF differential pressure too low bank 1. Could the pressure sensor cause all these issues? Will the regen as normal with these issues. No warning light has come on the dash. Just the odd limp mode which clears with a off and on job. Otherwise car is running fine. Where do I start? Possible replace the cat temp sensor?

Thanks in advance

I'm no expert on diesels sorry but it's unlikely you'll get a DPF regen with error codes present.
I'd be looking to take it to a trusted Indy to get it sorted.

The regen of the dpf won't happen if the temperature sensor is faulty. During regen the exhaust system obviously will get quite hot, so the system won't risk it overheating if the temp sensor is faulty. I'd get this seen to pdq, as irrecoverable damage to the dpf might occur if you leave it much longer.

Thanks I'm reluctant to going to the garage they charged me 200 quid just to change the pressure sensor. My cousins a mechanic so I think we're going to have a go ourselves at changing to sensor. His work has the ramps etc. All else fails I will have to take it to the garage. Reading up on them they don't seem to bad to change. Unplug from the connector unscrew from the cat and replace. Donyou recommend any good parts stores?

I'd go genuine with that. You might get a result elsewhere, but in my line of work it's easier to get it right first time.
