So. Got the offside door mirror assembly off to service the noisy power folding motor. Cannot remove the glass to get to the internal gubbins. Everything on YouTube and internet discussions I can find shows how to remove the pre-facelift glass with the metal clip running along one edge. Pics of replacement glass looks to have 4 pairs of (very breakable looking) plastic clips around the mounting ring. How the hell do you unclip them all at the same time with only standard issue human hands!?

Need to refit this glass so not removing by destruction… please help!

Not done this on the 211 but,
methinks you need remove the plastic frame,
then manipulate the glass to one side, pull backward,
and with that side free move glass to other side. I then expect the glass to be clear.
Then be careful of the wire connectors as they are often brittle at the mirror and easily snapped

Thank you brandwooddixon, an incredible resource there.

Instructions reminiscent of Haynes manual refitting is reverse of removal though!

Off to the garage for a play now… hoping the wedge is not a special tool!

This should be easy!

It’s a 2008 car btw. There doesn’t seem to be a spring arrangement as shown in the picture - I’ve attached a pic of what I think is the part from eBay - and it looks like it’s only the plastic clips holding it on which isn’t very MB. If I was replacing this would be a simple brute force job but I need to reuse the glass…

Anyone done this out there?

Turns out you just have to be brave at prying the glass off! All back together too. Pics of the arrangement included in case anyone else needs to do this. Thanks for the input.

Just seen this , I had to do the CLK glass a few months ago , yes you just need to pucker up and pop it off . I used a plastic trim removal tool
