Drove the car sportily and gearbox stopped working, only 100 meters driven onto drive

on inspection I could see these two pipes loose, one off the other very loose as seen in the picture

my impression is the person who recently just replaced the bumper did not tighten correctly and on heavy load the pipe has come loose.

Iv tighten the two pipes with 19mm spanner, but do not no how to refill the gearbox oil

I would like to fill the tranmaioon fluid and hopefully will have the car driving.

my questions are

what caused this problem, could I prevent something like this in the future / is it common

what type of gearbox oil does it need, can I use euro car parts

What is the process to refilling this gearbox / can I purchase service Manuel for this car?

Thank You

This is a 7g or 7g+ transmission? They each use a different transmission fluid.
If so, use a Mercedes indy to refill the ATF. The level is very important and its pumped in from underneath, not through any filler tube at the top.

Even after a short drive, if one of these pipes was actually off, without checking, there is no sure way of knowing exactly how much fluid is left in the trans and how much has been pumped out,,,I would not take a chance on even starting it, let alone driving it in its present condition. If you don't have the way or the mechanical knowledge to jack it up and follow the oil level check procedure, I'd be calling on an indy/ dealer to collect the car and transport it to their workshop.

Was thinking about this,,I've never seen a case of where removing / replacing a bumper would require going anywhere even near the radiators.... was the car in an accident and came from a body shop? And how did it get from there to your house? The pump in the transmission is capable of emptying it in minutes.. I remember the last transmission change and flush I did on my E class. I changed the fluid in the TC by opening one of the pipes ( just like yours) drain 2 ltrs / refill 2 ltres. It only took minutes. I would be getting in touch with whoever did the repairs, if I were you.

Thanks for the replays,

For the transmission, I did VIN check and got this number

722902 02 296796

I would assume it’s just a standard 7g gearbox

it’s a 2009 w219 Model, it does have a engine start / stop button on gear selector but do not think it’s functional as when pressed nothing happens.

I’m based in Birmingham and always had VWs, so I do not know any good specialist who should work on the car, I’m open to recommendations

MSL Stratford road are the business from google search.

The car was loosing drive 100 meters up my road and rolled onto my drive and parked to inspect,

problem came soon as I put my foot down and traction control kicked in, then the oil line lost pressure,

I be contacting the used car dealer I got the car from and will be getting it recovered to workshop for them to inspect and refill,

hopefully this should be sorted and I can get the mess cleaned up in engine bay.

That button is for keyless go start and stop. Its not the more recent eco mode where the car stops in traffic and restarts when you touch the throttle.
The pins are possibly bent or broken on the keyless button which will be why its not working. If you take the car to MSL Performance or Mercland, they can take a look at it.

MSL Performance are the go to indy in Birmingham. Located at the end of Armoury Rd Small Heath Birmingham.
