I think over the years, I have gone for BMW's but ended up selling them soon after. The ownership experience was horrible honestly, and overshadowed the driving experience.

Cars spent a lot of time at the dealer and that really soured the experience for me.

My cars were a 1988 E30 325i, E39 M5 and an E60 M5.

For me it was simply down to customer service.
I had driven to a Saab dealership with the intention of buying a 9000 Griffon. I had prearranged the visit but on arrival the salesman didn't seem too interested and wouldn't let me take the car on a test drive.
Perhaps it was because I turned up in a T-Shirt and shorts - it was a hot summers day.
I left disappointed - I wasn't going to buy anything unless I'd driven it.

On the way home I passed a Mercedes dealership and, on a whim, popped in.
I was immediately approached by a salesman who appeared actually interested in my custom, he offered me coffee, we discussed what I was looking for - he happened to have a W210 E320 (one of the first - it had a straight six rather than V6 engine) and without me asking offered me a test drive.
With another member of staff with me I was given the keys and told to take my time.
My test drive lasted easily an hour and involved motorway and country roads.
The car was bought! £28k spent.

The moral regarding judging books by their cover was very moot. Saab missed out on a sale, which was MB's gain.

I started working at a company in 2016 the owner of which had a collection of 45+ Mercedes cars from the 70s, 80s and 90s and pre merger AMG cars, including some highlights like the 560 SEC AMG 6.0 Wide Body, 500E and E60 AMG to name but a few.

I was given a Mercedes W124 300D as a quasi company car for quite some time, then a W124 320 TE, I eventually took the plunge and bought a modern E220D coupe which was nice, but I've swapped around a few times since then.

I hated Mercedes cars whilst I was working there to be honest, being forced to drive around in a rusty old knackered W124, but having driven some nice examples I know how good they can be and i'm still driving Mercedes today.

I first looked at the Mercedes SLK just over 4 years ago. I wanted a second car that was a convertible. The solid hard top did it for me and I bought a 2001 R170 320. Been very happy with that and have done a lot of work on it over the 4 years. Now upgraded to a late 2016 SL500 and absolutely loving it. The build quality and solid feeling of the brand have me hooked. My main car is a Jaguar XJ Autobiography (2017) and I still love that but it is a totally different type of car to the SL500. My last 4 cars over the last 12 years have been Jaguars and I have loved every one of them, also had 2 back in the 1970's.

First got into Merdedes in 1988, a 190E, what a wonderful car, had them ever since with another notable one an E300 or was it a 300E (can't rember) but just a wonderful car

But my latest, the all new GLA (H247?) - that is going to be my last, full of rubbishy electronics, a very disappointing car.

Me too, first MB was a 1993 190E and I loved that car, an exceptionally well built car. Unfortunately The MB was removed from our Company Car list for reasons I know not and a series of Audi A4’s followed.

I have just gone away from MB because at my age I can’t really justify the costs involved with servicing and repairs and so forth when I now maybe only do do 1/2,00 miles per year. Plus I had a Nox sensor that needed replacing plus some bright spark left me an envy stripe down the drivers door and front wing.

I have now gone VW and so far so good :)

I shipped my 1986 W201 190E from Bahrain to the UK and used it there until 1995.
Driving a left hand drive car in the UK was a funny experience, especially when the police would pull me over and walk over to the passenger window LOL

Oh and I would get pulled over multiple times a day because of my foreign plates.

Yes, I have had a couple of Golf’s in the past and and really liked them. For the money they have an excellent build quality. I also had an EOS which on the face of it was also a great car, BUT the water leaks just drove insane so it had to go

Went to buy a Christmas tree December 2004 with my daughter and noticed this W220 for sale. Had done Audi, Bmw.
Needed another road car as my Citroen XM had 184k and was ready for the bin. So bought the W220.

Always wanted a MB love the SL 55 and the older C63 but needed something a little more practical but if I had the funds I would have a AMG GTR.

First experience of Mercedes was dropping off a Daimler Sovereign Double Six (V12) to one of my step father's motor trade colleagues and picking up his 450SLC. Took the opportunity to drive round in it for the evening and going past New Brighton open air swimming pool where the "New Brighton Rock" concert was being broadcast live on telly, (the one with the live performance of Frankie Goes To Hollywood on a stage over the pool).
Loved the quality of the car and have had plenty of my own since. Was a great experience driving that at 18 years of age.
To be honest though, in the car job I've been very lucky to drive pretty much everything over the last 45 years, save for true exotic stuff like Bugatti etc.
