Have only had the car 6 days but have been pleasantly surprised with the fuel usage. The start stop has changed my driving style as I find myself leaving more space in front and rolling into junctions so the engine doesn't stop!
Yesterday on a run we had 68.9 and average on the car now 57.7mpg.

If you don't like the start stop you can deactivate it.

Picked the CLK63 AMG up this afternoon and from Birmingham to 10 miles north of Blackpool she averaged 27mpg
Satisfied with that considering what a monster she is.

On a leisurely drive back from Capel Curig yesterday I briefly saw 54Mpg in the 320CDI ( W210 IL6 ) after seeing 49 I was trying.Back home at Birmingham ended at 51.5 Mpg, amazing for such a Big Engine and such a Big Car .. wasn't the quickest of journeys though, 56/7 on the A roads and 70 on the M.way

So no need to worry too much! On business trips stay around 70- 80mph and it wont be that much more than a diseasil! . But the force will still be with you when you want to play!

The old 2 litre VW TDI engine in my mates Seat Toledo (4 door saloon) regularly shows 60+ MPG on motorway trips at max legal speed 70 its just ticking over -fully laden with all our golf gear too and now on 130k miles.

We went to the Temora Aviation Museum, which is around 1200km return in the W140, 400SEL and fill to fill it gave 8.5l/100km over the whole trip.

Not too bad for a two tonne V8...

Mine returns about 38 calculated from tank to tank. The dash shows 46 average hence do check as the dash can tell porkies...

2008 E 500 A/G Classic colour combination.
Another Devon run in the E 500 last weekend 34 MPG going and 33 MPG on the return. That is the most ever on this run chuffed to bits as I still drive normally definitely not coaxing the throttle. The down trip was helped by a longish stretch of 55 / 65 mph when overtaking two wide loads other than that all as usual. Detour on return leg over to Street and looked at the average on the dash 9000 miles 27.1 MPG (Not calculated) but still pretty impressive for 5.5 litre motor car.

Just used my second tank on a little Renault Clio, brand new one, in a nice red colour and nice place to sit, until you get off the motorway!
The front suspension is terrible! So crashy and makes the car feel hollow.

But clutch and manual 'box is nice and it has been an enjoyable 1000 odd KM in it, makes a change from the normal car at home.

It is showing 6.3l/km, so 45mpg, considering how much town work and up and down some very steep roads in the coastal hills that is pretty good.

It is a little 90bhp petrol, but feels stronger than that.

I've never checked the real figures on my 2003 270cdi clk with a manual gearbox, but the on board computer is very impressive. Since my last service in Feb 2014 I have clocked around 6500 miles and averaging 59.9 mpg.
On a recent trip from derby to York on the 50 mph M1 I hit 74.5 mpg.

So you're averaging around 800 miles per tank?

That is ****** good as an average.

Both my C270 Cdi's (Autos) would easily average 53mpg at a steady 70 - 75mph..
On A roads I could easily get low 60's mpg so I can quite believe that your figures with a manual gearbox are correct.
Incidentally on both my 270's the onboard computer was EXTREMELY accurate with reguards to fuel consumption!!
My first C270 had the optional 80 litre fuel tank and so the "on a run" range was over 1000 miles !!
