    Hello all,

New to Mercedes-Benz ownership (2003 SL500) and wondering what took me so long, I am now looking for the best dealer and independent service options in the Newcastle upon Tyne area, although I'm willing to go farther afield for the best work. I have seen a number of postiive comments about Staithes Garage in Gateshead, and some negative ones about M-B Newcastle (although the dealership also appears in the M-B Club's good garages list), but all these appear to be at least a few years old. Do any readers have recent experience with M-B service in my region?

    With thanks,

    TS

Been using Staithes for a few years now, usually only Mercedes waiting to be worked on when I go, only problem it's so popular it's hard to get a quick appointment.
Only used the main dealers to buy some small parts.

Thanks, Barnacle Bill. I'll be interested in forum users' reports on experiences with M-B dealers in Newcastle, Sunderland and Stockton-on-Tees (which all appear to be part of the same group). For non-emergency repairs, I'm willing to go quite far afield to get the work done right first time. TS

    I’ve used

Mb Newcastle and Sunderland - not for a few years now though - no issues really, they did damage the paint on my e class’s bonnet.... they are expensive....

For an independent I used Merc Solutions in Cramlington, great guy ex MB Newcastle (originally as Cragside main dealer) costs great and always as planned... never did anything without checking either. Looked after my wife’s A class and then my E. Need to have him look at the SLK as the brakes are sticky with lack of use.

There is also M&S prestige in Boldon who my dad used for about 10 years without issue on 2 cars

Staithes ive heard are good but no experience

I have now had two experiences with M-B Newcastle, and have to say that I am impressed. The work was not inexpensive (there is no way to run a complex vehicle like my SL500 on the cheap), but it was completed transparently, without issues, and at lower cost than I have seen mentioned for comparable work on various forums. So although I am hoping not to visit them again until start of 2020 (MOT time), I am glad to recommend.
