W124 E280 Estate/1995/2.8
My 1993 K-reg W124 220TE estate now has 204k miles on the clock, authentic rust bubble on the front wing and a collection of minor scratches and small car-park dents on the bodywork. Oh, and the automatic gear box is starting to be a bit awkward (takes a long time to change up to 4th; and change from 2nd to third can be a bit of a jolt). So, do I stay with this 'future classic' and spend the money getting it sorted; or do I go for a less thirsty, smaller, lower-mileage and slightly newer estate such as a C240, say 1999 model?

I would take a drive in one to see how you feel in one.

The gearing is better on the 202 and 210 that on the 124 with a better gearbox too

No mention of a W203? Guess it all depends on your budget, but the 1 owner full MBSH 67k miles 2001 C270CDI Elegance estate auto I got last October (with 12 months warranty!) for £6k is brilliant. Computer currently showing 41.5mpg over last 1700 miles, plenty of grunt whan you want it and comfortable effortless cruising when you're in relaxed mode. Even better, the "navigator" in the front passenger seat (AKA SWMBO) also loves it - so peace reigns!!
