CLK320 W208 rear tyre wear - Continental

Hi there,

I have the stock 16" alloys on my 2002 CLK 320 Elegance. On the left rear a Continental Sport Contact 2 205 55 R16 91W MO fitment. The right was also fitted at the same time quite a few thousand miles ago. The right then needed changing due to an unrepairable puncture when they were both at about 5mm or more maybe. I fitted a standard Sport Contact 2 (not MO fitment). Well, the right tyre is now down to 2mm and the left MO one is still at maybe 3mm.

I have been reading on the forum about MO or not but is this normal? Generally do these Sport Contact 2's wear out quickly? I have had the alloy changed on the right recently as it was corroded with a 2nd hand one and both sides bearings have been done. The tyres are wearing evenly - just did not expect the new one to wear out quicker than the old tyre!

Was thinking of either Sport Contact 2 (non MO) or Sport Contact 3 MO this time but wanted any advice on anything better especially in wet/cold/snow.

I cant really comment on the conti. I have falkens on 18inch rims, so far have done around 10k hard miles and still good for a lot more :)

Couldn't even get onto my drive today and I'm not in some rural location - really need to sort something out but the price of winter tyres have shot through the roof!

I used conti all the Time and having trouble with them now for the last year

I just bought four falken tyre's and I must say they are very good really happy even do they are cheaper than conti I got a great price of eiretyres.com all prices include postage and vat worth a look

regarding winter tyres, I have just put in Pirelli SottoZero MO fitment winter tyres on all four rims, got them for £500 from TyreTraders - they were the cheapest I could find in premium, I didnt want to take any chances in snow, felt very comfortable and safe in my car today..
