P0101 is related to air flow sensor fault the 06 is a variation In the fault code. Also had two vehicles same fault code . Air flow sensor and O2 sensor replaced but fault remains
Check all your hoses for splits.

Am I barking up the wrong tree or is the IAT temp not a bit too high if OP is UK resident at this time of year?

Plausible if it's in a garage idling or has had heats and drawing hot air from the inlet tract. If it's outside driving around then a bit less plausible.

Had the same fault along with the DPF is restricted. I was advised to replace the DPF pressure sensor which I did myself with a new genuine part bought from Mercedes (£70) and this had no effect. Got a DPF mechanic out (Another £70) to hopefully do a force regen and he said it was the MAF sensor.

I started to look at replacing this and due to the car being stop/start this was coming up at around £200 for a new and speaking to another mechanic they said it could also be the MAP sensor (£50).

It was a tough call but I thought instead of spending more money chucking parts at the problem get it diagnosed at Mercedes on there star diagnostics and it was found to be a split Intercooler Hose (A2125280000). New part number (A212528000064). This was another £70 plus the £120 for diagnostics.
