Hi,

I posted here a couple of months back regarding a new Transmission Control Unit fitted to my CL600. Following this, there was, and still remains a big difference in the drive of the car, with the cars drive almost feeling like it's being held back, with some sort of resistance on the drive. This is best demonstrated when driving downhill, not applying the accelarator, and the car slowing, when I'd have thought it would increase in speed. I've not been able to find a resolution or an answer I like to that one, however there is another issue, which could be related........hopefully as ever, you guys might be able to assist or shed some light on this.
tha
Once the car has been idle, and all cooled down, when I then get into the car to drive, the first dozen or so gear changes are very jerky and delayed. Let;'s say if I've slowed down for a speed bump, and then apply the accelarator, the gear change will kick in perhaps a second after expected, and it will also be very jerky. This would usually continue for maybe the first 2 or 3 minutes of driving, and then it returns back to normal smooth changes.

Any ideas? Could this be related to the resistance felt in the drive? Or am I being over critical of my expectations of the car? It certainly wasn't like this prior to the new Transmission Control Unit. As usual, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark

at an initial guess and going back to your other thread it could be that your lock up clutch is sticking, fluid change may make it better for a short period but could probably do with going on STAR and some live tests done by an Indy

Thanks Matt, I've had the car back to Mercedes previously, and had it on STAR, however the technician couldn't find any error readings. That was while the car was stationery I think, not STAR linked to the car while driving (is that possible?). I then had a technician out with me in the car, but not tuned into my car, he couldn't feel the resistance I was feeling.

By fluid change, I assume you're referring to the Automatic Transmission oil, which the Service booklet shows required at every 40,000 miles? As an aside, I've looked at the Service Book stamps and checkboxes, and it seems like the car has never had the Transmission Oil replaced, although the car is just shy of 70,000 miles.

It's due for a service anyway, so perhaps it's worth having the oil replaced then.

yep, certainly worth having the ATF changed while it's in for a service. and yep totally right in thinking they can plug a car into STAR and drive around and getting live data although the dealerships don't like to do it (more likely they just don't want to bother), so a visit to an Indy with STAR may be a better option and someone that know how to read live data will get your sorted. There may be no error stored its just the way in which it drives that will be different.

Agree with the above, check live codes, ATF change + adaptation reset via STAR, however I would steer clear of taking back to the dealer based on what you have said...

I see your in Liverpool, have you tried MBtech in Warrington (link below)? ask for Shane or Will, they have full STAR diagnostics and MB trained....they looked after my old W215 well including ATF service it changed perfectly.

Thanks DSB. I'll give them a call in the morning. The car needs a service B, plus a couple of other mileage based services items needed, plus MOT due soon, so I could wrap the lot up in one visit. I'll have a chat with them, see what their thoughts are, and then get the car in.

A few months ago my warning light came on and car was diagnosed as needing a new control unit for the transmission despite me not having any issues I was aware of. The service centre informed me that once fitted it would require the car to be re programmed to change gear, this entailed a driver and technician going out to do this and takes as long if not longer to do than the fitting of the unit. Car has been faultless since.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. After taking my car back from Mercedes I noticed straightaway there was issues with the drive. I returned it to them twice, first of all the put it on the STAR, and said no faults found. They also looked at the software and re-programmed it. The second time was for one of their Technicians to take it out for a spin to feel the drive. They maintained there was no issues. I still beg to differ. Hopefully MB tech in Warrington can get to the bottom of it!

I've heard of MB Tech mentioned here before, and Will who I spoke to seemed knowledgeable, so here's hoping! As an aside........I did a 100 mile round trip this evening, motorway mileage, I wasn't in a rush, so nursed the car. I went from my usual 15mpg round town, to an impressive 25mpg for the motorway trip. Grateful for 25mpg, what is the world coming to?! :)

The thing is we all know our cars we live with them day in day out, the problem is convincing the dealership or Mercedes there is a problem.
I hope you have a successful outcome.
