Clearly I am in a minority.

Jeremy, no I have not had keyless go but I have equally never had a problem with a key.....just an old fashioned boy I guess.

My father had no problem with using fax machines at work instead of computers :p

2017 GLE 350d, navy-blue, --- SWMBO's car, 2007 SL 350, (R230) silver.
FWIW - I started out looking for an SL 55 or at least a 500 because I wanted the V8 ( I drive a Corvette half the year in the USA).

Early in my search I decided the SL 55 was unnecessarily mad. Then I became aware that a post 06 SL 350 was nearly as powerful as a pre 06 SL 500, had real springs ( no leaks :D) and there were lots available for about £20k

True the exhaust sound isn't V8, but it's pleasantly raspy, and the performance and handling are still pretty impressive. I'm just happy to get a five year old SL for so little

Just my 2p. Cheers, Andy

I've just been reading about them - they don't have the little emergency hardware key so I'd always be a bit worried about not being able to get in the car :D

I have both .... Traditional key AND the card :p. so i am sorted....

After this advice, I think I will look post the update as it seems to a better car all round with the new COMAND system etc. Keyless Entry is must-have but a pan-roof would be nice, but I can live without it. I would spend around £20,000 and maybe a bit more if it was worth it.

M6 Cab - prior to that, SL63 AMG, A-M V8 Vantage, SL55, SL500 and many more
I owned it for about 3 1/2 years (until last week)

In approximate reverse order it's had:
Both front struts & power steering/ABC pump - 2 months ago
SBC pump replaced about 6 months ago
PSE pump replaced abou 2.5 years ago

Wheels powder coat refurbished - absolutely unmarked

It's had the rear wings sorted under MB warranty 9 months back

Advisories on MOT - all tyres - all now replaced (rears <500 miles, fronts brand new). Also two rubber bushes were on the advisories as showing some cracks (no excess movement though & they are press out press in type so not huge money)

Brake pads fine but minor pitting to inside of front discs. There is slight warping on one disc (showed up on MOT brake test - not noticeable)

It is unmarked, full dealer history, no boot leaks, some squeaks (but it's an R230) and lovely to drive

If you want a shortcut to the right guy at the dealer, drop me a pm

Bad News! My wife crashed our family car which means I cannot buy my SL until the end of this year when I get my bonus. At least we get another Mercedes I suppose. Hoping to have 4 Mercedes by this year but I guess that may have to put off until next year.

Thank you for help everyone anyway; I will use the advice in the future, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Keyless go on the MB has not been cracked as far as I know, it should not make any difference if the early pre mid 2003 or the later all in the key re the security. Yes it was advised on the card type to keep a key in the pocket.

A it cost no more to buy a car with comfort seats, why not have them, with the perforated leather you get a cooling function also. They are softer and fit you better than the standard multi contour seats, it makes them as near as you could get to a Volvo seat. I have driven 1000 miles virtually non stop with them and arrived as fresh as a daisy.

Pano roof is up to you and how it looks on the car, but all these things are easy to argue about if you have never had them, just like the Bose or HK, the sound is horrible without. I never turn the radio on in my 140 it is just so horrible.

As for distronic I would never have another car without it.

I can vouch for the comfort of those seats on long journeys.... After 400 miles the other day i got out the car and felt fine.... No hot sweaty rear end .....

The Bose is brilliant ...esp with the top down ... That bass at the passenger side failry thumps out...

And Distronic... Well what can i say .... What he said above really!

Yes but that equally could apply to anything on the SL from my experience thus far. ...
