I get what people are saying, but if you are being paid with cash (and we were generally talking about many thousands of pounds) you' would surely have to ask where they got it from?? Are large gambling wins still paid in cash (never been lucky enough to find out)? if they are then you have legitimate proof of where the money came from. Selling a car and insisting on being paid in cash seems to me like you are just causing yourself a problem for no reason.

Sold my pug for cash a few years ago, both the buyer and me wanted to do a bank transfer, however as it was an Irish bank the transaction seemed to take three day to get to me (sent me a £500 deposit via transfer to secure it for him), so he ended up taking the 10k out the bank, flying it over and me collecting them from the airport, we then came back to my place did the handover and then took him and the money to the bank to put it in, sooo many questions about it but thankfully I knew the staff as I’d worked there in the past, and the guy had asked for a transaction receipt from his bank when taking it out, so made it much easier, not straightforward but ok in the end.

The depreciation is horrific on electric Vehicles, you can but an Audi E-Tron for under £17k at 3-4 years old, new price was a min of £62k, Launch editions are coming in under £29k and they were around £80k new so a £50k loss in 3-4 years!!!!

0% on new MB elec cars, Vauxhall giving 20+% off their electric Mokka new!!!

There was a story I read the other day about Porsche Taycan used prices . It was about the newer ones have improved mileage capability (they are all EV’s) . This has hammered the prices of the used models .
Used Taycan owners trading in were being offered £20-40k below recent trade in prices !
You can see it on Autotrader , new cars are up near £150k and used 2020/21 cars are 50k ish . That is some serious depreciation.
The other part of the story was about EV cars not having battery condition information (rather than just remaining distance) .
This was influencing used EV prices because a car that has been fast charged all the time has had the battery lifespan reduced . The next owner or dealer not knowing what state the battery is in.

Harry Metcalf went into detail on the battery condition state in his recent video, well worth a watch. As for depreciation, I have no sympathy as consumers are welcome to make up their own mind to choose what they do, and that’s not limited to the EV band wagon.

Got to be nuts to spend a decent wedge of money on a depreciating asset be it buy it outright or on tick. That’s not just an EV but, anything that’s new and generic be it EV/ICE etc.

Absolutely agree, I shudder to think how much I've spent and lost on cars and even more modding them, but I've enjoyed every minute of it, and wouldn't change a thing.

Like yourself, I also think along the same lines, you can’t take it with you and I’ve only twice made money on two motors, Porsche boxster and Landrover..

I see the world in an ever worsening state. Everyone is being screwed whether they can see it or not and the squeezes will become ever worse. Whose going to look after one in old age? What taxation and pension screw ups are to come? Don’t rely on partners, kids and family and others, be self sufficient til death and if I can leave my child something significant to take over etc then great.
