SBC brake failure
Can everyone who has had brake failure/accidents/near miss as I have due to the SBC fault please send an account of your experience to. vsb@visa.gov.uk (this is the body that decides when a vehicle must be recalled) asking them to please instruct Mercedes to recall these vehicles as a matter of urgency.

Sbc pump

Pump replaced today foc by Mercedes, turns out a recall was put out for my car back in 2005/2006 . Call your Mercedes dealership and ask if there are any outstanding recalls on your car, just have your vin/chasis number ready. Good luck.

i was not aware of a recall of SBC units at all, only modifications to timing and IIRC a harness for the brake wiring?

do you have the details from MB with the recall number?

see link for the actual reasons for the recall in detail http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/apps/recalls/searches/expand.asp?uniqueID=15CA6C4180C13BEA80256FEB00446996&freeText=Blank&tx= /056 is for wire chafing making it harder for the pedal to be pushed and NOT SBC failure.

http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/apps/recalls/searches/expand.asp?uniqueID=CC59A06482E2064680257081003795D0&freeText=Blank&tx= /134 is for an inspection of the unit and testing to be conducted by MB to see if any were failing before they should, but if i read it correctly it states the brake pedal may require more effort than expected, which to me means it will depress but its harder again not the unit actually failing.

I just called the dealership on Monday asked if there were any outstanding recalls, they said yes , two, both to do with the brakes. I booked it in for today, they would have re programmed the Sbc if it would have taken the codes but it wouldn't so they replaced it. I didn't ask them for the recall details.

All they have done, after checking the error code was the correct one is reset the counter back to zero. You will still have the fault come up at some stage in the future

Thanks Extractorfan , they would have looked at the car on the day I called but decided to get a pump in first incase the old one wouldn't take the re program which often happens if the fault is not showing when presented to them.
