Hi guys
Having been inspired by this: http://www.mercedes-fans.de/autoderwoche/autoderwoche_artikel/id=795/start=0
I've decided to do an engine swap on the W123 CE I'm about to buy. We've just dropped a modern XJ Jag engine into a 60s Mk2 Jag and also have a lot of experience dropping crate Chevy and Ford engines into a variety of vehicles for clients, so I am now up for braving said conversion.
I have sourced a good, low mileage (37k) W210 engine and box from a CAT C '51 plate E55 that has a nasty bit of rear quarter damage from a friend that is in good running order with a FDSH.
Planning on buying a ropey W123 CE in the next few weeks and set about the swap. Could anybody give me any help or advice re the fitting/mounting of the engine, suspension, brakes, gearbox, drivetrain, engine management etc. etc.
We tend to use Omex ECUs that we programme to a custom spec but would be interested to know if it would just be worth keeping the original ECU?
Can anyone point me in the right direction re. air suspension for a W123 (as I'm struggling to find anything specific but an indication of something that can be adapted would be great). We have used Continental and Air Lift Performance parts in the past.
Laugh as you wish, I am an 18yo stock broker who wants something to keep me busy out of work as I've just finished my '85 BMW K100RS cafe racer and am waiting on a gearbox rebuild on my '67 Plymouth GTX and don't much fancy something obviously flashy like my colleagues. I am fortunate enough to have trade insurance as through my father who is a classic car restorer by trade and has carried out full restos on many W123s over the years so knows his way fairly well around them.
Any help gratefully received.
Thanks
Merlin
