Hi,
Latest in the Merecedes owning saga that is a ten year old C240...a puddle of fluid appeared on the drive about a week ago - and crawling under the car confirmed it was coming from the gearbox!
Given the low clearance and the very high chance of getting 8 litres of fluid all over the drive, I took the car in to a local indy who reckoned on $400 (about 150 pounds) to change the sump gasket and oil.
Well - he had a difficult job - the sump and gasket were changed ok, but he discoverd that the electrical connector gasket had failed which was causing the leak - why put the electrical connector below the level of the fluid? Anyway, the connector has a white plastic collar that rotates 90 degrees to release the cable - but then there's a 6mm hex head bolt within the plastic moulding that secures the moulding to the box - which tool a while to work out!
All changed and leak free - he changed the filter too which was mucky - must never have been changed before - and all back together for $326...125 pounds. The filter, sump gasket and connector seal were all only 12 pounds each which surprised me - I thought they would be way more expensive.
I wonder what will fail next?
