Hey everyone,

I bought my beautiful 2015 C204 a few weeks ago, and after giving it a good clean (following some of the amazing advice from these two posts 1, 2), I've noticed some issues with the paintwork. I've taken some pictures, although it's very hard to capture the extent of the issues.

I'm hoping for some advice around how I'd go about fixing the issues. Does it need a respray? Can I accomplish anything through polishing?

Thanks in advance!

Gazward my friend welcome to the forum ..This is enugh to upset anyone when you find paint problem later on after you purchased the car. . It is hard to see the paint problem in your picture , it all looks like it as marks all over the back end ...Did you not notice this on the day that you purchased it ?. More pictures will help .

Looks like crazing in the lacquer from the picture

Thanks for the reply and your sympathy! I unfortunately didn't see it when I bought the car, although it does seem that it became noticeable after I washed it for the first time. Not sure if that would make sense or not.

I've taken some more pictures, hope these are a bit more clear than the originals. It's so hard to capture it with the reflection!

It looks to me like something has been spilled across the boot lid, and that something has either been sprayed or rubbed into some of the glass.

Is there a strong enough cleaner which could get it off, but not damage the rest of the paintwork? Soap, water, and a soft cloth have not done the job.

I would agree it looks like the rear end of the car has been poorly resprayed at some point and the lacquer is peeling off.

Have you checked inside the boot for impact damage ?

Have you taken your car back to the place you bought it from? Surely any trade professional would have spotted paint defects when he took in the car, and later prepared it for sale. Did you buy it from a franchised Mercedes dealer?

I agree with SL55 Mark, it looks like a substandard repair job to me.

You say you dont know if it was on the car to start with .. I would if it was mine . If it is that its been done after you purchased it . Do you know of anyone who might bear a grudge .. .That would stoop so low as to do this on your car ? . Or even people that think you should not have such a nice car . It llooks like a spillage of some kind ..Pop it in to a paint shop for further investigation .And then see what they have to say what it is ..But do let us know the outcome .

Colour match polish is quite common with the less than scrupulous used car seller... :(

It lasts a few washes then the true condition comes through

So take it back to them , get them to sort it out for you and dont say nothing about cleaning it,, if you do it might be that they will say you have done it .
