Hello!

Can anyone help me identify what the reason(s) might be for my 1991 W124 200E to give starting problem?

Please see short video here: Merc 200E start

Only happens on a cold start.
Once warm - it starts fine.

If you could list possible aspects to look at, so I can eliminate them one by one, that would be great.

Thanks in advance.

I would start by checking the battery, not just the voltage, is it correct for the car.

Check you ovp relay fuse as your abs light is up too. That’ll give you poor starting but not slow cranking

sounds vert sluggish turning over, battery.
Cold weather kills weak batteries, if its fine when warm / seems it got a bit of charge running.

get a volt meter across battery first thing in the morning before a start and report back.

ovp problems give horrible idling.

If parts in the ht system are old they night all need replacing . Plugs distributor and rotor plug leads if the are getting on in life they are a big cause of starting problems . You could clean battery terminals and give them a dab of grease or better still copper slip . Check all the earth points you can find , remove the bolt and clean up and the body it screws to and refit . If you do all your own maintenance these should be done . Fuses ,if white metal change them for ceramic and copper . Battery needs full charge ,and a good check is in the picture . Like above the OVP plays a big part .
