Hi All,

The gearbox has finally given up on my automatic 07 C220 CDI sports edition 5 door estate. I believe it is a 7.226 gearbox. Does anyone know of anyone reputable who supplies quality replacements? I would prefer to go through someone recommended rather than take a chance with ebay.

Any help appreciated. Thank you

Has the fault been diagnosed by an MB specialist , you may just need a couple of internal parts ?

I had the conductor plate changed about a year ago which helped with the gear changing for a while, but now it wont engage in any gear, it hasn't been looked at by a MB specialist but had some advice from a few which advised either a full rebuild or replacement
sorry didn't say it was a auto to begin with.
Thanks

would you not be better taking your car to an auto gearbox specialist?

HI yes that is an option, to be honest it all comes down to cost with a car of this age.

Personally, I'd get it scanned to identify the fault or faults...then based on the results, I'd make my decision. Dropping out the present transmission, and replacing it with a S/H one, which you will not know the condition of until after it's installed and running. Of course a fully rebuilt and guaranteed box will be a sure fire if a bit expensive solution. Scan first, decide afterwards would be my advice anyway.

As above I would get the car scanned for fault codes.

This is one of the best videos I’ve seen on the 722.6 box regarding checking the gear changing solenoids assuming the fault isn’t the gear selector on the trans tunnel

Thanks for all advice I live in South Wales just the other side of the seven bridge, it would be a case of getting on a tow truck to the nearest MB specialist.
