Apologies, my mistake - it was 2/3 years ago when I rebuilt mine.

Hopefully ATDC will sort out the timing without the need to move the chain.

right ok....

So the cams should be set at tdc 0/T mark and the pump at 14 +/- 0.5 ATDC

Currently the "peg" appears in the window at around 25 ATDC

so i thought that the pump must have slipped?

Sorry to be such a pain
many thanks again

Yup, looks to be a tooth or two out.

Have you removed the bottom dowel to allow movement of the chain guide?

It was removed when I took the head off but I will have a go at removing it again to move the chain.

Thanks again

Can I just check - you do know that if you rotate the crank fully through one rotation, the pump and cams will only have moved half of one turn?

Note that cam timing is set at TDC (O/T mark on crank pulley), not at 15 degrees. Note the two holes that line up with a 4 or 5 mm pin in each cam gear, and the front cam caps, as well as the 2x dots that meet in the middle.

Pump timing is approx 14 degrees ATDC - note ATDC, not BTDC.

I'm glad you mentioned this Alex because I have just read through the thread and thought where is there btdc coming from?
Also from memory are these not correctly set up with the timing indicator that displays a/b on it? I know they pump locking method works, but surely by just getting the peg in the centre of the hole you end up with incorrect pump timing?
I know the pump can be fine tuned, but its certainly not a method I would use!
And did these engines not have a recall back in the day for stretched chains?
