Hi guys, this is my first post so please excuse me if I don't get this spot on.

I recently bought a 2001 c200 coupe. Fantastic car! It's got a nice blackish purpleish colour too!

However there is a problem with the remote or the sensor of something. It only locks when I point the remote right next to the sensor on the drivers handle. Any ideas what's going on? I've replaced the battery's but nothing changed.

Thanks for reading

is the radio reception ok? it could be that the AMP in the rear pillar has gone down. this means that the RF part of the remote cannot be picked up, and has to rely on the infra red system as a result (hence very short range)

Hello and welcome, please check fuse 8 in the rear box to see if it has blown

Thanks Malcolm. I forgot about the fuse!

Im still trying to get to the bottom of a similar fault on mine. fuse 8 fine, radio signal fine, but shorter than normal range (sometimes seems to improve in wet weather but only very occasionally!)

If this fuse has blown Pete, the most likely cause is the alarm siren.

The siren is easy to test, just lock the car with the remote and open it with the metal key, and the siren should go off.

Yes there can be many faults on the antenna system on a 203

my fuse is fine, radio is fine, one day I will get around to removing the trim inside the C pillar to see if I can see any connections broken etc, as I believe they can become loose from the glass and be fine for the radio but NOT the long range locking

Wow! What a responce :)

My radio reception is non existant most of the time! Is this a common thing? I've had a look at the fuse and it looks ok

Do try another fuse as the break can be too small to see, if the fuse is really OK then you need to get to the rear window and check the amp and the connections

Maybe replace the battery again? Sometimes those "new" batteries comes almost empty. That's what I had twice now and I bought it from stores like tescos.

Hi guys. Sorry for the absence.

I changed the fuse and still no difference so I've ordered another amp. Hopefully that will be here tomorrow so I might have some good news this week. It's getting a bit tiresome standing in the rain hoping that I can unlock my car in under a minute!

If you have any key operated locks on the car---- now is the time to check them out/lubricate them to make sure they are working! ;)

Will I need to recode or program anything when I put the new amp in?

You must check the connections on the rear screen, they can break away, no coding required

Hi I have to same problem, i was messing around with the mic for my Bluetooth kit, and and was trying to the interior light section out, I touch something next to the bulb with a screwdriver that sparked ! Now from interior lights wort work and the key fob only works from about 2 mts and only if you point it directly at the drivers door, think I blow a fuse

Televsion and Dec helped me a couple of years ago with central locking (for which I was v grateful) but I think the pump motor has died (kept going after start _ I think caused by a vacuum leak which I have still to find). Now I need to send the pump unit for repair (1 000 miles away and 2 weeks) but on removal I can't start the car! How do I "bridge" the unit temporarily? I guess the pinout layout would be useful. Thanks for any help. Apologies if posted in the wrong place!

Thank you but I must be missing something. With the 8 pin plug in the pump unit the car starts. Take it out and it won't. I want to send the pump for repair but still need the car!
