W208 CLK320 drivers electric memory seat problem - help, can't drive car!

Hi there,
A while back my drivers memory seat developed a problem where trying to move it forward would move it back and moving it back would move it back. The memory button would bring it to the correct position so the motors are fine.

Yesterday while trying to adjust the headrest, the whole seat moved forward and now all the buttons including memory are dead. Passenger control is fine. If you tilt the seat forward, the headrest still moves down and returns to postition when the seat it put back.

Does this point to the buttons being faulty or the wiring? Is there a separate control unit for each side (passenger and driver) or just one?

Can't drive the car with the seat all the way forward so this one is really urgent!

Thanks.

I am trying to get the ECU out from under the drivers seat. Any suggestions on how to do that? Do I need to remove the whole seat or is there a way of removing just the cushion?

I've checked all the fuses - my car had white ones for the power seats, but I checked every one. Just out of interest, would the drivers seat have a different fuse to the passenger one?

I've managed to get the ECU out without taking the seat out (I didn't have the female torx sockets to take the seat out) and visually it looks fine - no blown bits. So I'll be dismantling the door today and checking the switch and wiring. Any help and advice appreciated!

Can anyone tell me if the door controls for the seat have any logic in them (ie chips) or are they just a bunch of switches with no control logic? I haven't obviously taken it out yet as I need to know the best way of opening the door panel to remove it.
