Engine sounds low on compression still.

Your injector seals are also leaking unfortunately, I can definitely see number 1 puffing away, not sure on the rest, if they are all leaking badly, it will never start....

That’s probably because we decided to use the old bolts. Just to get her started up. Once she was running again we were then going to use the brand new bolts and torque them properly. Ie the 7Nm plus 90 degrees way.
I am also concerned now that I have buggered up my injectors with white stuff. I hope not at this stage because I could only afford the end nozzles for now and even getting those out was not easy.
If I could find my new torque wrench I could then tighten them down properly.

OK, they will never seal with the old bolts, at the wrong torque. If you re-tighten the old bolts they will snap in the head, and then you will have more issues.....

When you say end nozzles, can you elaborate please?

Yes sorry. The injector nozzles. With the 5 spray microscopic holes that inject the fuel into the top of the cylinder head. I watched a video whereby the nozzles could be very carefully removed, cleaned, tested and then very carefully put back together again. I did this and they were spraying perfectly with using wd40 to test them. Trouble was I forgot to then seal them with the rubber caps until it was time to re insert them. Plus now with the white degreaser getting into the fuel lines i am concerned that they may be clogged up now.

Close ... so close!
Remake the injector seal that seems to be leaking, as said.
Remove air cleaner and do as LK says with Easistart. Two of you needed for this to work.
It will fire with Easistart, and this might be enough to pull the fuel through so that it then continues running.

Make sure it charges once running. Hate to hear that pressure washing has fouled up the alternator.
Open the fuse box and make sure all fuses are dry.

Put champers on ice.
Invite all posters round for celebrations!

PS.
Oh boy - I've just seen your post about the injector nozzles! You're going to get more trouble from this, sorry. Remove champers for now.

I’m expecting to see this up the hill on the 28th under its own steam (probably wrong choice of phrase there...)

Hmmmmm dismantling the injectors to remove the nozzles, and playing with the nozzles themselves is a bad idea with common rail. They must be tested at operating pressure (1000 bar) to ensure correct atomisation, and the preload, assembly torque etc, all make a big difference to this.

I am not 100% sure they will work correctly after being taken apart and put back together again, you may very well be leaking off your fuel pressure in the injectors themselves.

The degreaser may very well cause issues, but only time will tell.

You may have some luck getting the engine to run with easy start, but you have introduced so may variables, its hard to tell.

hope it goes well,

can't help wondering why would anyone expect DIY on 1000 bar injectors is a good idea.... how old is the car? I thought we went to 2500 bar 8 years back and run >3000 on current tractors

I know I know. Big mistake. Will not do that again. And finances depending will get new injectors perhaps early next year. After new glow plugs.

2005 C220 CDI Classic SE estate. Yes I know now. Should have asked on here first before watching YouTube videos. They had been tested as well. As I said earlier, I won’t do that again.

Current stuff is not that high on MB, 642 is 1800ish. Older 4 pots is 1500ish, but all in that general ballpark.

Yes. Big mistake!!! Learning lots of hard lessons from this. We have an idea re cleaning out the fuel tank. It does involve some water however the idea is to dilute the rest of what is in the tank from above and then pump it back out using a couple of hoses and a small drill pump. What do you reckon?

Drain tank
Clean what you can with clean tissues from the bottom of the tank.
Fill with at least 20L of diesel

Nope was definitely IN the intake manifold. As there was oil and carbon caked into the inlet that I felt needed cleaning out.

Was the inlet manifold removed at the time?

Um, we can only see the bottom we cannot get in to use tissues. Unless there is a way to get in that we’ve not tried yet?

Only to get the rest of the white stuff out. I’ve asked how else we do this but no one has answered that yet.

Isopropyl alcohol will absorb water but you will need to drain the alcohol out of the tank before you add diesel.
