Thanks for your up date imkaz ;) I can see the car back on the road again, don't rush it or short cut if you know what I mean. Actually it will be good to see it finished :)

Another breaker has just let me down! Gave me a price for the parts, I asked for a picture of what he will send for the price, to confirm he has it. Says he forgot to include the reinforcement bar across the front, and hads on another £300 because a new one is £680!

So far, the hardest thing about fixing this car, are people trying to justify the price of parts based on new car worth £70k and not on a £3k non-working 10+ year old car bought in an auction!

You can pay £1500 for a complete front end for the R230 :geek:
I found a few when I looked at a damaged SL 15 months ago ;) mind you it was a complete front.

Sad to see....repairable if you have deep enough pockets I suppose, it would never be the same though, looks like a parts car now.

Quick update: So I put the front panel on the car, and it went straight on without issue, so looks like the chassis legs may not be bent at all or enough to be an issue.

I am now still trying to figure out the best way to remove the AC condensor from the car though, can't seem to get it off! Here are a pic of mine and couple with how the it looks disconnected. Any ideas on how to get this off would be great!

On the top pic undo the nut on the back of the pipe connector. The pipes should then pull out.

I did take the nut off, but they are still stuck together, some say that they may have corroded together and not coming apart. Is there like a tool or something I can do to try pry them apart? Just can't get much leverage with just my hands...

OK. A quick update. I tried a bit more to get the condensor off and this happened...

and

Something, I guess I need to sort out later now that its off. I managed to drive the car very briefly and it didnt appear to pull to any direction, so its looking promising. I will need to test it further once I have headlights in.

More importantly, I am trying to get the car running OK. I noticed that the car juddered and felt very rough in reverse gear, it felt smooth in drive, with neutral and park being bad but not terrible.

I thought it was the oil level in the gearbox, but checking it, it appears to be either full or over filled, I added more as I lost some taking the radiator off and thought it would stop the juddering. I am not sure if the tube is reading correctly just because I am finding the tube is going past what feels like two stops and getting completely submerged in oil.

Can someone tell me how far the tube goes in to measure the correct level? IE how much of the dip stick is in the tube, from the hole in the picture below to the bottom of the stick.

Here is also what the car looks like at the moment:

It certainly seems to be coming along for you. The transmission oil needs to be the correct level, it doesn't take much for it to display odd driving behaviour if the level is low or too high. Can't offer any help on the dipstick issue I get the garage to check this for me as they have the correct thingy
